2021 Warfighter Scholarships for National Adaptive Academy

Move United invites disabled veterans to apply for Adaptive Snowsport Instructor Training scholarships!

 

With support from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Move United Education is pleased to offer scholarships for the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy December 7-10, 2021.  The PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy is held in conjunction with The Hartford Ski Spectacular in Breckenridge, CO.

 

Scholarships are intended to support disabled veterans who are seeking to expand their adaptive snowsports teaching skills in a professional or volunteer capacity. Awards are contingent on the availability of funds to be announced Fall 2021.

 

Scholarship recipients will receive the following (valued at $1600):

  • Event registration, credential, and goody bag
  • Up to 4 days of alpine lift tickets (dependent on clinic enrollment)
  • Enrollment in 4 days of clinics
  • PSIA manuals (Adaptive Technical Manual & Adaptive Supplement: Diagnoses & Medical Classifications)
  • $900 travel stipend

  • Please describe your current snowsports activities, and your goals related to training, professional/personal development, and volunteerism. What are you hoping to gain from this training? If you are not currently certified, please explain how you are actively working toward PSIA-AASI certification.
  • Are you fully vaccinated against Covid-19?

Eligibility

To qualify, an applicant must be:

  • Veteran with a permanent physical disability, including but not limited to amputation, traumatic brain injury, visual impairments, muscle, burn and nerve damage and spinal cord injury. (PTSD as sole diagnosis is not eligible.)
  • Level 6 or higher skiing or snowboarding skills
  • PSIA-AASI certified OR actively pursuing certification
  • Prepared physically/mentally for rigorous schedule of 4 consecutive training days
  • Commit to register for the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy and attend full days of clinics December 7-10, 2021

Selection

In the event that the number of qualified applicants exceeds the scholarships available, priority will be given to those who have:
• Letter of recommendation
• Not attended the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy in the last 3 years
• Limited training opportunities in their local area

Redemption of Scholarship - Instructions

We are monitoring COVID-19 closely and updating policy in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines. Our COVID-19 policy regarding vaccinations is still pending and additional information will be relayed upon acceptance.

1. Upon notification of the award, the scholarship recipient is responsible for completing online registration for the event, including clinic selection and processing payment no later than September 10, 2021. Clinics do fill quickly, so be sure to register early to ensure your first picks! You must register for full days of clinics December 7-10, 2021. You may select any combination of indoor/outdoor clinics. Childrens clinics are not eligible for the grant.

 

2. Scholarship recipient is responsible for making all travel arrangements.
Discounted rooms available on a first come, first served basis and often book quickly.
Transportation resources and parking information

 

3. Equipment: You must provide your own equipment.
• Ski and snowboard equipment discounts may be available – check back for more information.
• Skis can be stored in the ski check by the lift ticket window. Coin operated lockers and overnight ski storage are available for a fee. There is no free storage. Please do not leave any personal belongings around the hotel or conference facility.

 

4. Event Check-In: Upon arrival at Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center on Monday, December 6 please proceed to the Event Check-In to complete waivers and receive your event credentials, goody bag, banquet tickets, lift tickets and a bib. Following Event Check-In, please see the Continuing Education Administrator to Check-In for the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy.

 

5. Reimbursement: Move United will provide reimbursement post-event. Please note that the reimbursement is contingent upon successful completion of the clinics and itemized receipts are required for reimbursement. Receipts must be submitted by December 20, 2021.

• Event Registration Fee
• Clinic Fees
• Up to 4 days of alpine lift tickets (dependent on clinic enrollment)
• Travel (airfare, lodging, ground transportation, meals)

* Non-reimbursable expenses include, but are not limited to, purchase of clothing and/or other personal items. Travel expenses must be in accordance with Move United travel policies, which will be provided to the applicant if they are selected for the scholarship.
